Overview
The Reserves 2004 Series continues by examining recent scenarios that have some still scratching their heads looking for methodology and answers. This past year the oil & gas industry has been plagued with downgrading, resignations, prosecutions, Sarbanes – Oxley compliance deadlines, and many, many questions. Since we learn from our mistakes, we’ll look at 4 case studies with our peers for a day of lessons learned.

RESERVES 2004 SeriesTM...Financial:
Accurately Reflecting The Value Of Assets
Houston, Texas The Westin Oaks Hotel
Our Reserves 2004 series continues with two Roundtable discussions, a Workshop in December and a major Forum in January of 2005. Seating will be limited. We anticipate approximately 450 participants for the series.
The SEC does not have a definition for probable reserves and does not recognize them or permit them in the reserves filings. The SEC regulations were designed to create a "standardized measure" by which all companies could be compared using the same yardstick. The use of year-end pricing to establish economic limits for estimating reserves is questioned by those wanting a better gauge of value. However, the SEC has repeatedly stated that its intent is not to establish fair market values for companies. The agency maintains this view in spite of the fact that SEC-reported reserves affect corporate stock prices and equity, earnings and performance, and credit status and borrowing power. To boost short-term market performance, companies are driven to increase reserves replacements frequently by increasing proved undeveloped reserves, a category increasingly questioned by the SEC and investors.
